Prophet Julius Atadzie, General Overseer of the Last Stop Prayer Ministry has given the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, a month to ban local alcoholic drink, akpeteshie and other alcoholic beverages, or face the rage of he and his entire church.
The Prophet, outraged by the frequent and perceived uncontrolled advertisements of alcoholic beverages in Ghana’s media landscape has given the government a month ultimatum to present a draft bill to Parliament seeking to ban akpeteshie and other alcoholic beverages.
Speaking to This paper in an exclusive interview, Prophet Julius indicated that, alcohol has been one of the developmental hindrances of Ghana, especially with its negative influence on the youth.
He wondered how all night clubs and bars are full to the brim at nights, but the same enthusiasm and alacrity is not applied to production and productive ventures, decrying the state where a lot of individuals would have to take in alcohol before taking meal.
He lamented also on how alcohol has found its roots in Ghana’s educational system; causing students to abuse it, rather earning them classic degrees in intoxication rather than economically beneficial degrees.
More Broken Homes
He lamented about the surge in broken homes in Ghana in recent times, attributing it to the acceptance of schnapps as a requirement of a marriage engagement.
He explained that, by accepting alcoholic beverage in exchange of giving out a woman’s hand in marriage, the practice become negative and hence have negative influence on the marriage since symbolically “it shows the marriage is intoxicated from the very beginning.
