A Cesspool Emptier Driver of A & D Waste Company, Nuru Musah has find himself at the wrong side of Sanitation laws of Ghana.
Musah has therefore been jailed six months for discharging untreated effluents onto the Odow River.
The offender was seen openly discharging untreated effluents from his cesspool emptier over the weekend onto the Odow rever on a broad daylight without fear or the negative impact his illegal activity will have on the environment.
A good samaritan alerted officials of the Metro Public Health Department (MPHD) of Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and a complaint was lodged at the Kaneshie Police Station
On Monday, November, 1, 2021, officers from the MPHD led by Mr Joseph Asitanga and Mr Ishmael Tagoe got the owner of the company, arrested him.
According to officials after the arrest of the owner of A & D waste company, he also tendered in the driver who was involved in the act and subsequently arrested.
The accused Nuru Musah was detained at the custody of Kaneshie Police Station.
The accused on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 was sent to La Sanitation and Motor court, the driver was fined GHc2,400 or in default go to prison for 6 months.
At the close of day, the accused person was not able to pay the said amount and has been sentenced to cool off in Nsawam prison.
Meanwhile, the Metro Public Health Director, Madam Florence Kuukyi appealed to the public to report such un-ruling behaviour to her outfit.
She however, cautioned the public to desist from engaging in such act.
“We want the public to know that whatever goes around comes around, we have our eyes planted everywhere within the metropolis and we shall fish out all those dumping waste indiscriminately in the city center which is likely to lead outbreaks of disease.” She emphasised.
This arrest and prosecution is going to serve as a deterrent to others out there who will want to commit same.
