Barring any unforeseen circumstances ,the 2020 flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) former President John Dramani Mahama will from Sunday, August 15, 2021 embark on a nationwide ‘Thank You’ tour.
According to a release signed by the Director of Administration at the Office of the former President, Callistus Mahama, (PhD) and copied to Today, the tour “is to thank the millions of Ghanaians across the 16 regions for their support in the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections”.
Meanwhile the announcement of Mr Mahama’s countrywide tour has brought excitement to majority of Ghanaians, the Weekend Today Newspaper can authoritatively confirm.
In an exclusive interview with this paper, some market women at Dome Market in Accra could not hide their joy when they first heard the news.
A tomato seller who gave her name as Obaa Ama tod this report that “ his (Mr Mahama’s) tour is even long overdue. We can’t wait for him come back in 2024 and take over the reins of government”
She expressed her disappointment in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, noting that the country would further retrogress if the NPP were to retain power.
Others who spoke also called on Mr Mahama to come back and rescue the country from the bad leadership of the NPP government
The tour, the statement said, has been grouped into three phases.
The first phase of the tour will cover Upper West, Savannah, Northern , North East and Upper East regions.
The dates for the other phases the statement said would be communicated in due course.
However, it said, the tour “is limited to regional capitals only and it is a half a day for each region
The statement further urged that the cCovid-19 Protocols should be put in place and adhered to all times.
“For purposes of planning, the statement said, “we have allocated a maximum of four places for national executives for each trip. Please note that, these officers are expected to make their own traveling arrangements. They will, however, be supported with fuel and accommodation for each region”.
